He underlined Mizoram’s important place in the Act East policy of India. Greater connectivity, he explained, would boost trade in Southeast Asia, enhance cultural exchange and promote tourism. The push also aims at creating employment and inducting erstwhile marginalized communities.

Northeast emerges as innovation and startup hotbed

The Prime Minister also appreciated the region’s surging entrepreneurial culture by mentioning the emergence of over 4,500 startups and 25 incubators. Apart from this, the National Sports Policy is also going to yield better opportunities and global exposure for Mizoram’s players and thereby increase the state’s share.

He said reforms such as new GST rates are lowering taxes on essential products. Medicines and vehicles have become more affordable, making healthcare and mobility accessible. Meanwhile, India’s economy recorded 7.8% growth in Q1 of 2025–26, the fastest among major global economies.

Modi also referred to Operation Sindoor and stressed upon the significance of “Made in India” weapons. He praised Mizoram’s participation in India’s freedom struggle and country-building and indicated improved connectivity facilitating the region’s integration in the mainline economic and cultural activities.

Why did Modi call the Northeast India’s growth engine?

The Northeast was characterized by Modi as the engine of growth of India because of the rising infrastructure here, railway connectivity, and thriving entrepreneurship, which overall is giving the region a flourishing hub of opportunity and innovation.

Why is the Bairabi-Sairang railway line important?

The Bairabi-Sairang line connects the Mizoram capital Aizawl to the Indian national railway network. It was historic in the way it broke through challenging terrain and opens up new economic and social opportunities.

How are reforms positively impacting individuals in the region?

Such reforms as the revised GST rates reduce the taxes on medicines and cars and thereby the price of healthcare and transport. These actions reduce the cost of living while encouraging local economic participation.
