North-South Intermodal Service Enhances Sustainable Logistics in Italy

Hannibal, the multimodal transport operator of Contship Italia Group, has introduced a direct rail link between Melzo and Marcianise. The North-South intermodal service meets the growing demand for sustainable logistics. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

North-South Intermodal Service Expands Connectivity
The Melzo-to-Marcianise route will operate with two weekly round trips connecting Milan Rail Hub and Marcianise-Maddaloni terminal. In response to increasing demand, the frequency will rise to three weekly trips by the first quarter of 2025.

Each train accommodates up to 32 containers with low-loading wagons that support various container types. Oceanogate, a specialized operator in rail freight transport, will provide rail traction for this new service.
Andrea Spagnuolo, Contship Italia’s Sales and Business Development Manager, highlighted the benefits of the intermodal link. “This new service connects Southern Italy with Northern Europe efficiently through our Melzo hub,” he stated.
Features of the North-South Intermodal Service
Spagnuolo emphasized their commitment to tailored transport solutions addressing diverse customer needs. He noted the flexibility in moving varied units alongside value-added services like warehousing and goods transshipment.
The service also integrates customs operations for containers on the ground and ensures seamless first- and last-mile truck transportation. Contship Italia positions itself as a leader in sustainable and efficient logistics, adapting to evolving market demands with innovative solutions.
