Nigeria: $3.2 Billion Railway Line Reconstruction
10.05.2024
The completion of the reconstruction of the Port Harcourt — Maiduguri section in Nigeria is expected to significantly improve the railway infrastructure, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Resumption of passenger transport on the 62km stretch between Port Harcourt and Aba after a months-long hiatus brings significant changes to the local transportation system.
In Switzerland, trials of obstacle detection system on narrow-gauge railway have begun
The reconstruction, costing $3.2 billion, is being carried out with the participation of the Chinese company China Civil Engineering Construction (CCECC), aiming to increase the speed of both passenger and freight trains.
It is expected that after the project is completed, the speed of passenger trains will reach 100 km/h, and freight trains – 80 km/h.
In addition to the reconstruction of the railway line itself, the construction of new stations, the development of an industrial park and a deep-water port, as well as the updating of rolling stock, are planned.
These steps will not only improve transport accessibility for local residents but also contribute to the development of the region’s economy by accelerating the process of transporting goods from inland ports.
It is planned that the next stage will be the reconstruction of the railway section from Aba to Enugu.
