Based on previous plans, CMRL planned to lease 42 cars for a long term.
However, after canceling the previous tender, the company decided to purchase new cars.
Now the goal is to contract for the supply of 32 three-car trains, totaling no less than 96 cars.
Companies must submit their applications to participate in the tender by May 15, 2024.
The main requirements for the cars include a width of no less than 2.9 meters and a capacity of up to 980 passengers.
It is expected that the trains will travel at a speed of 80 km/h, providing fast and efficient transportation links in the city.
These new cars will be used on new metro lines to be built as part of the second phase of the Chennai Metro development.
It is worth noting that the funding for this project is provided with the support of the State Bank of India (SBI), which has allocated funds amounting to 4.5 billion rupees ($54 million).
This demonstrates the serious commitment of the Indian authorities to infrastructure development and improving the living conditions of city residents.
Despite some difficulties, the second phase of the Chennai Metro remains an important element of the city’s infrastructure development.
The planned supply of new cars will contribute to improving public transportation and enhancing service levels for millions of passengers traveling every day.
