A new maintenance center for shunting locomotives has opened in Kazakhstan. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Depot senior master Alexander Arkhipov explained that the center will perform a full range of scheduled maintenance tasks. The project involved setting up essential infrastructure, including a specialized machine for wheelset turning. Seventeen qualified technicians are on-site to conduct modern maintenance work.
Expanded Capabilities at the New Maintenance Center for Shunting Locomotives
The production of TEM11A shunting locomotives began in 2020 at the American company Wabtec’s plant in Astana. These locomotives require maintenance every 184 days, making them well-suited for intensive use across the country’s rail network. In February 2024, KTZ signed contracts for the delivery of 18 TEM11A locomotives by 2029. Moreover, the 2018 contract allowed for up to 300 units of this model to be acquired.
Opening this maintenance center for shunting locomotives allows KTZ to improve the reliability and quality of freight transportation. This project also helps the national railway company to develop infrastructure and expand maintenance capabilities, improving working conditions and reducing repair costs.
