Key features include middle-facing benches, which increase standing room, and open gangways, allowing easier movement between connected cars. Modern electronic displays also make navigating routes, including North Hollywood and the Westside, more intuitive.
LA Prepares for Growth with New Subway Cars and Future Expansions
The HR4000 models will operate along the Wilshire/Western extension, linking Beverly Hills and the VA Campus. However, changes in federal regulations prohibit Metro from ordering more units from CRRC.
Metro will introduce HR5000 subway cars, produced by Hyundai-Rotem, to replace older models before the 2028 Olympics. These updates support LA’s long-term goals for sustainability, accessibility, and transit efficiency.
Metro’s HR4000 subway cars highlight LA’s commitment to modernizing its transit infrastructure. Future upgrades, including the HR5000 launch, ensure LA remains prepared for rising demand and major events.
