New Entrant Makes Strides in Montenegro’s Rail Freight Market

On September 9, Kombinovani Prevoz Montenegro, an independent operator, successfully ran its inaugural freight train in Montenegro, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply
KPM operates as part of the Kombinovani Prevoz Group, headquartered in Serbia, with subsidiary branches in Croatia and Montenegro.

The group boasts a workforce of over 200 employees and maintains a fleet of more than 20 diesel and electric locomotives. In 2022, they orchestrated an impressive 2,915 trains, transporting a total of 1,845,734 tonnes of freight.
Established in September 2021, the Montenegrin subsidiary’s primary mission is to facilitate seamless rail services from Serbia to the port of Bar and to Albania, utilizing interoperable locomotives to significantly reduce border crossing times.
Notably, two Bombardier Transportation Traxx AC2 electric locomotives have already received certification for operation in Montenegro. Certification for additional locomotives is currently in progress, including ČKD-built diesel locomotives essential for shunting and last-mile operations.
