New Alstom Enterprise in China: A Step into the Future of Railway Technologies
11.07.2024
The French company Alstom continues to strengthen its position in the global railway transport market, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Recently, Alstom, in collaboration with the Hefei municipality, opened a new plant, Hefei Alstom Rail Transport Equipment Co., Ltd. (HATEE), for the production of traction systems and components in the city of Hefei.
This event marks an important stage in the development of the company and its strategic cooperation with China.
Partnership and Development
The work to create the new production site has been ongoing for a year.
In July 2023, Alstom signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the city of Hefei, and in September, it signed an investment cooperation agreement with the Hefei Xinzhan High-Tech Industrial Development Zone.
At the beginning of 2024, the legal entity of the new plant was registered.
Specialization and Innovation
HATEE will specialize in the production of traction systems designed for standardized metro trains, which are in demand in the Chinese market.
In addition, the plant will produce advanced OPTonix traction systems, developed by Alstom.
This will allow the company not only to meet the needs of the domestic Chinese market but also to strengthen its position on the international stage.
Project Implementation Stages
The project to create the new plant will be implemented in three stages.
It is expected that the full cycle of production, maintenance, and modernization of traction systems will take 8 to 10 years to achieve an annual capacity of at least 1,500 traction systems for trains.
The trial production launch at HATEE is scheduled for October 2024.
Contribution to the Chinese Railway Industry
Alstom already has a significant presence in China: 11 localized enterprises operate in the country, employing about 10,000 people.
The company’s plants in China have delivered more than 6,000 railway passenger cars, over 1,500 electric locomotives, more than 7,200 metro cars, over 800 monorail cars, 136 automated people mover cars, and 191 tram cars.
Alstom also provides maintenance services for 4,100 cars in China.
