Network Rail will deliver more than 630 projects across Britain’s railway during the May Bank Holidays, investing £133M to upgrade infrastructure while keeping most travel routes operational. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Network Rail Focuses on Early May Bank Holiday Upgrades
Because the railway is quieter on weekends, Network Rail schedules major projects during holidays to reduce disruption.

From May 3 to 5, London Euston and Milton Keynes Central will see no train services on May 4 and 5 due to embankment repairs, drainage upgrades, and track renewals.
London Victoria services will also be disrupted. Track renewals, re-signalling, and maintenance works at Battersea will close platforms 1-8. Southeastern trains will divert via London Bridge or London Cannon Street, and Gatwick Express along with Southern services will operate reduced schedules.
Between Cambridge and Audley End, signalling upgrades linked to the Cambridge South station project will stop rail traffic from May 3 to 5. Buses will replace rail services, and CrossCountry will offer bus links between Cambridge and Stansted Airport.
Network Rail Undertakes Late May Bank Holiday Projects
From May 24 to 26, significant projects will impact key routes. No trains will operate between London St Pancras International and Bedford on May 24 and 25 due to overhead line upgrades, preparing for faster bi-mode trains.
East Midlands Railway services will start and end at Bedford, while Thameslink services will operate only up to St Albans and Harpenden.
Between Nuneaton and Stafford, structures and HS2 earthworks will reduce service from May 24 to 30. Avanti West Coast, West Midlands Trains, and CrossCountry will run a limited timetable, with buses covering affected routes.
Helen Hamlin, Director of System Operations at Network Rail, emphasized that thousands of workers will support essential upgrades, making Britain’s railway more reliable. She urged passengers to plan their journeys early.
