Network Rail Extends Maintenance Work

Rail services will remain disrupted this weekend due to extended bridge replacement work. The project, initially scheduled to finish earlier, now requires two extra days for completion.

Train routes between Doncaster, Goole, and Scunthorpe will continue facing delays as crews finalize crucial repairs. To accommodate passengers, an adjusted Northern timetable will operate with reduced services on Saturday.

Weekend Travel Disruptions and Alternative Arrangements

On Sunday, replacement buses will run between Goole and Doncaster to support affected travelers. TransPennine Express will also provide alternative transport between Doncaster and Scunthorpe throughout the weekend.

Authorities confirm that regular train schedules should resume by Monday, restoring full service. Network Rail officials stress that these repairs are essential for long-term railway safety and efficiency.

The Marshgate Junction bridge in Doncaster has deteriorated significantly, making urgent repairs necessary. Engineers determined that continuing train operations without intervention posed structural safety risks.

Installing support beams requires temporarily switching off overhead powerlines to ensure safety. Operations director Sam MacDougall emphasized the importance of completing these improvements now to prevent further disruptions.

Extending the maintenance work avoids a more prolonged closure that would severely impact commuters. Authorities believe this short-term inconvenience will ultimately improve travel conditions for passengers.

“We apologize for any inconvenience caused to travelers this weekend,” MacDougall stated. Officials assure passengers that this approach minimizes long-term disruption while ensuring essential repairs.

Passengers are advised to check their routes via National Rail Enquiries before traveling. Verifying updates from train operators will help ensure a smoother travel experience during this period.
