Network Rail’s upgrades also support the development of Old Oak Common station, the largest new station built in a century. This hub will connect GWR, Heathrow Express, and high-speed services to the Midlands.
Engineers are still working near Westbury in Wiltshire to replace tracks and improve signaling systems. This work ensures safer operations, with services expected to resume by January 24. Temporary buses are bridging gaps during construction.
Marcus Jones, Network Rail’s Western region director, emphasized the importance of these upgrades for modernizing the network. He thanked passengers and residents for their patience while improvements were made.
Network Rail prioritized completing this work during holidays to limit disruption. Engineers worked tirelessly to ensure timely completion, setting the stage for smoother, faster, and safer train services across the UK.
