This major transit hub, one of the busiest in the Greater Toronto Area, is set to experience a significant increase in passenger traffic in the coming years. The project aims to prepare the station for this growth while addressing urban development needs and an expanding rail network.

Alongside Arup, the lead design partner, the Kenaidan-Murphy Joint Venture (KMJV) will work on the station’s design, schedule, methodology, and cost proposal. These efforts are in collaboration with the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC).

Key Upgrades for Toronto’s Bloor-Yonge Station

Key upgrades to Bloor-Yonge Subway Station include:

• A new Line 2 platform for eastbound service.

• Expanding Line 1 platforms to accommodate north and southbound traffic.

• A new accessible entrance on the south side of Bloor Street East.

• Various mechanical and electrical works.

• Utility, highway, and public realm improvements.

Strategic Benefits of the Toronto Subway Renovation

Robert Gray, president of KMJV, commented on the scope of the project: “The logistical challenges, operational requirements, and extensive stakeholder involvement provide an opportunity to showcase KMJV’s expertise. Our local knowledge, paired with Murphy’s global experience on major projects, will be key to success.”

Gray added, “We are excited to help redevelop this crucial transport hub for Toronto’s commuters.” Omid Nakhaei, principal at Arup, also emphasized the significance of the project, noting that the station’s location directly beneath their Toronto office makes it particularly meaningful for the Arup team.

This development will enhance the capacity of Bloor-Yonge Subway Station, ensuring it meets the needs of Toronto’s growing population and transit demand. The collaboration of KMJV, Arup, and the TTC will play a key role in shaping the future of Toronto’s transportation infrastructure.
