Morocco Rail Investment to Improve Urban Mobility

Fifteen multimodal stations will be built or renovated, all featuring universal access. These improvements aim to ease road congestion and promote more sustainable commuting options.

By the end of the decade, over 560,000 residents are expected to benefit from faster access to work and essential services within 45 minutes of travel time.

The World Bank expects a 7% rise in reachable job centers and a 7.3% improvement in access to public services through this investment.

Morocco Boosts ONCF Capacity Through Strategic Funding

Morocco’s urban population is projected to hit 70% by 2050, making modern rail systems critical to support growth and improve citywide connectivity.

The initiative also strengthens the institutional capacity of the National Railways Office (ONCF), focusing on governance, strategic planning, and customer service delivery.

According to Ahmadou Moustapha Ndiaye, the World Bank’s country director for the Maghreb and Malta, the loan will help ONCF evolve into a modern, service-driven railway operator.

In 2020, the World Bank had already provided Morocco with $150 million to support urban transport improvements, marking a continued partnership in mobility development.

With rising urbanization, efficient and inclusive transit options like this program help Morocco stay on track toward its sustainable development goals.
