Under a €200 million deal, the team will design and construct tracks and power systems. They will focus on the northern section, spanning 346 kilometers of single-track rail.

Meanwhile, a separate €50 million contract assigns Colas Rail and SETEC additional upgrades. They will improve superstructure and civil engineering across 112 track-kilometers of lines.

Colas Rail announced these projects in February, and completion targets 2028 for both. So, they aim to connect Morocco’s growing network with faster travel options.

Hervé Le Joliff, Colas Rail’s Executive Vice-President, celebrated continuing their successful work. “We built tracks and catenary systems for Tangier–Kenitra from 2014 to 2018,” he said.

That first project launched Morocco’s high-speed era, and now expansion moves quickly. The Kenitra–Casablanca–Marrakech line, stretching 430 kilometers, already has civil contracts awarded.

Morocco Drives Rail Modernization Forward

These deals show Morocco commits to upgrading its railway infrastructure with urgency. And they promise faster, more reliable trips for millions across the kingdom soon.

Experts say the improved network will lift tourism and economic growth in regions. Because of this, ONCF advances plans to link major cities more efficiently.

Colas Rail and SETEC deliver expertise to ensure top-quality results by 2028. So, the nation’s high-speed rail vision grows stronger with each step taken.

Morocco Targets 2028 for Rail Completion

The northern section’s 346 kilometers will feature modern overhead power supplies and substations. Meanwhile, upgrades to existing tracks will blend into the high-speed system.

By 2028, travelers will enjoy shorter trips between Kenitra, Casablanca, and Marrakech daily. And this project cements the kingdom’s role as Africa’s rail innovation leader.

ONCF’s investment supports a strategy to improve transport and promote sustainable growth. Because of these efforts, the nation sets an example for others to emulate.

Construction moves ahead steadily, and excitement grows among locals and industry experts. So, the Kenitra–Marrakech line will transform travel and connectivity across the kingdom.
