Modernization of Passenger Carriages by PKP Intercity

PKP Intercity announced the modernization of passenger carriages, signing contracts worth 1.5 billion zł. This initiative covers 150 carriages with upgrades improving safety, comfort, and functionality for passengers. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Key Features of the Modernization of Passenger Carriages

The modernization includes 133 first- and second-class carriages undergoing significant updates. New seating, air-conditioning systems, modern toilets, and power outlets for devices will be installed.

Additional upgrades include replacing windows, doors, and lighting, alongside equipping carriages with bogies supporting speeds of up to 160 km/h. Free Wi-Fi access will also be provided for enhanced passenger convenience.

Seventeen Combo carriages will feature multifunctional zones for passengers with reduced mobility. These zones will accommodate wheelchairs and bicycles, ensuring a more inclusive travel experience.

Economic Benefits of the Modernization of Passenger Carriages

The total value of contracts between PKP Intercity and its subsidiary PKP Intercity Remtrak now stands at 3 billion zł. This investment supports the expansion of factories responsible for the work, strengthening Poland’s transport industry.
