The United Kingdom Upgrades High-Speed Train Fleet
In addition to Electrostar trains, Southeastern is modernizing 29 high-speed Javelin trains of the 395 series. These trains operate on the HS1 line, connecting London’s St Pancras station with Kent. The modernization is being carried out by Hitachi Rail under a £27 million contract.
Furthermore, Alstom, in collaboration with c2c operator owned by Italy’s Trenitalia, is upgrading 74 trains of the 357 series. These trains connect London to its eastern suburbs. The contract was signed in May 2024, reflecting a commitment to systematic improvements.
The modernization program focuses on reducing environmental impact, improving convenience, and enhancing service quality. The use of energy-efficient technologies makes the trains more eco-friendly, while upgraded interiors ensure a more comfortable passenger experience.
