Romania is modernizing the Constanta port to facilitate the export of Ukrainian grain, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.

Modernization of Constanta Port

On Friday, September 8th, the Romanian government will approve a plan to modernize the infrastructure at the Constanta port, which could promote the transit of Ukrainian grain.

Opening of Elevated Metro Line with Automated Trains

At the Constanta port, the Romanian Ministry of Transport, with funding from the European Union, intends to modernize the existing infrastructure, construct new roads, access ramps, and roundabouts, as well as implement a digital traffic management system.

The works at the port, estimated at 721.3 million lei (approximately 155.67 million dollars), are planned for 36 months.

Furthermore, the Moldovan government has modernized dozens of railway lines connecting the Constanta port with Ukraine.

Work is also underway on the Danube River to accommodate a greater number of barges, including by involving more pilots and enabling nighttime navigation.

Romanian officials had previously stated their intention to double the monthly volume of Ukrainian grain transit to Constanta to 4 million tons in the coming months.
