The handover of the Class 10M5 electric train, the result of Mirai’s extensive work on upgrading the Class 5M2A coaches, marks a new era in South Africa’s rail transport development.

Originally built between 1962 and 1985, the coaches underwent significant changes, including new classifications and enhanced technical specifications.

Mirai Rolling Stock not only modernizes Metrorail and PRASA’s intercity trains but also actively participates in infrastructure projects nationwide.

With multiple manufacturing sites and supply of components, Mirai remains a key player in the market.

In 2024, Mirai plans to deliver 105 upgraded coaches, showcasing its capability to manage large-scale projects effectively.

This initiative not only improves passenger comfort and safety but also upgrades South Africa’s railway infrastructure overall.

PRASA’s modernization program aims to significantly increase the proportion of upgraded fleets, enhancing service quality and market position in passenger transport.

Mirai Rail continues to play a crucial role, reinforcing its reputation as a reliable partner and innovator in South Africa’s railway transportation sector.
