These efforts are part of Phase One of the National Passenger Rail Development Plan, introduced by President Claudia Sheinbaum. The plan aims to restore passenger service on 3,300 km of track nationwide.

Mexico Upgrades Railways and Purchases Rolling Stock

The first phase includes 755 km of routes. The Ministry of Defense has already begun building key segments where the new trains will operate.

Approximately 89% of the new routes will follow existing freight lines. The remaining portion will require new tracks designed for higher speeds needed for passenger transport.

Mexico Strengthens Regional Transport Connectivity

Authorities aim to improve links between key economic hubs while reducing highway congestion. The plan also encourages tourism growth and regional mobility.

This national project emphasizes sustainable development, reducing emissions and optimizing logistics. These actions reflect Mexico’s commitment to a modern and efficient transportation system.
