Metrolink’s Importance in Greater Manchester

Metrolink is integral to Greater Manchester’s public transport infrastructure, with millions of passengers using the network annually. As the demand for efficient transport grows, the new contract will focus on enhancing the customer experience and expanding the network’s reach.

Expansion and Technological Improvements for Metrolink

Alongside operational responsibilities, the new operator will support ongoing expansions, including new tram lines and modernized technology like tram-train services. Metrolink’s future development aims to create a seamless travel experience across the region.

TfGM’s Chief Network Officer, Danny Vaughan, emphasized that with record patronage and growth, the new contract would ensure Metrolink remains a key player in Greater Manchester’s transport system. This move also aligns with broader efforts to integrate Metrolink with other public transport options in the city.

The procurement process will include detailed steps such as operating services, inspecting and maintaining infrastructure, and supporting future Metrolink upgrades. A market engagement day will take place on June 10th, giving potential bidders an opportunity to learn more about the project.
