Metrolink Offers Free Train Rides for Cyclists on Bike Day
09.05.2025
Metrolink will offer free train rides to cyclists on May 15 for Bike Day, and no ticket will be needed as the bike itself will count as the fare. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Board Chair Doug Chaffee highlighted that bicycles and transit work best together, calling the initiative a practical way to support active and sustainable travel options in Southern California.

Most Metrolink train cars can fit up to three bicycles, while bike-friendly cars hold nine. Arrow trains, running in San Bernardino County, accommodate up to 12 bikes per car.
Standard and qualifying electric bicycles are both permitted. This flexibility makes it easier for a wide range of cyclists to participate in the offer.
However, the free fare promotion does not apply to Amtrak Pacific Surfliner trains, which require both paid tickets and prior bike reservations under the shared-use agreement.
Metrolink Supports Multimodal Commuting Solutions
Metrolink continues to support multimodal travel and is working with regional agencies to promote green transportation through public-private cooperation and targeted events.
On the same day, LA Metro will also waive fares across its network. The Ventura County Transportation Commission will do the same for riders with bicycles.
Metrolink and Partners Promote Bike Access
Metro Bike Share will offer free 30-minute rentals with promo code 051525, helping more residents take part in Bike Day without needing to own a bike.
These joint efforts aim to reduce car use, cut emissions, and promote healthier urban lifestyles. They reflect a growing shift toward integrated, low-impact transit solutions.

By removing cost barriers and coordinating across agencies, Metrolink and its partners are making sustainable transportation more accessible than ever.
