Metrolink Introduces Affordable New Fare System in July
28.06.2025
Metrolink will launch a major fare overhaul on July 1 to simplify ticketing, increase savings, and attract more riders throughout Southern California. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The six-month pilot program introduces discounted passes, lower prices for regular users, and new flexible options. If successful, Metrolink may extend it through 2026 to boost ridership and revenue.

One major change is the new $5 L.A. Zone Day Pass. It allows unlimited same-day travel between eight key stations, including Union Station, Burbank Airport terminals, and Glendale.
This pass replaces higher roundtrip fares, which currently cost between $7 and $12, delivering savings and seamless transfers across zones without extra charges.
A revamped SoCal Day Pass also debuts. Replacing the seasonal Summer Day Pass, it offers unlimited rides across all six counties in the system—priced at $15 on weekdays and now just $10 on weekends.
Monthly commuters will save more, too. Most monthly passholders will see a 10% fare reduction. At the same time, Metrolink will retire overlapping passes such as the 7-Day Pass, 10-Day Flex Pass, and roundtrip tickets.
Metrolink Adds More Discounts for Riders
Veterans now qualify for a 10% discount, aligning with existing benefits for active-duty military members.
Students with valid IDs and riders under 19 will receive 50% off fares. This replaces the Student Adventure Pass, which ends on June 30, and doubles the previous student discount of 25%.
Metrolink Enhances Accessibility and Convenience
The fare changes follow a recent schedule upgrade that added trains and improved connections at Union Station. These improvements support Metrolink’s strategy to evolve into an everyday regional rail solution.
Metrolink tickets still include free transfers to the LA Metro system. Additionally, up to three kids under 17 can ride free on weekends with a fare-paying adult.
These steps mark Metrolink’s commitment to affordability, simplicity, and rider-focused service improvements as commuting habits shift.
