METRANS has acquired the Croatian railway company Adria Rail
22.02.2024
The freight operator, a subsidiary of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik (HHLA), completed the acquisition by purchasing 51% of its shares in March 2023, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
This move will strengthen METRANS’s presence in the Croatian and Serbian markets, facilitating up to 70% of container transportation through the port of Rijeka on the Adriatic Sea.
Additionally, in the fall of 2022, METRANS established direct connection with the Baltic port of Gdansk, and in May 2023, it launched a regular route linking the port of Rijeka with freight terminals in Budapest-Csepel and Indjija, near the capital of Serbia.
This new acquisition significantly enhances METRANS’s position in the European freight transportation market, where the operator runs 650 trains weekly between its multimodal terminals and major ports.
