Passengers were advised to switch to the Union Pacific West Line as an alternate route. Many commuters faced long delays and confusion while navigating unfamiliar schedules during peak hours.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, and no serious injuries were reported. However, the semitruck remained lodged at the crossing for hours, making it difficult for crews to clear the scene and inspect for infrastructure damage.

Investigation into Metra train crash LaGrange underway

Authorities launched an investigation to determine whether the truck became stuck or attempted to beat the train across the tracks. Initial reports suggested the crossing barriers were functioning properly at the time of the crash.

By early evening, Metra worked to restore service but warned of continued delays. Officials urged riders to monitor alerts and allow extra time for evening travel.

The incident underscored growing concerns about safety at suburban rail crossings where heavy freight and commuter traffic intersect daily.
