The problem began around 4 a.m., when an engineering train’s lifting platform failed to lower after maintenance work on overhead cables. The train stopped dangerously close to the cables, forcing staff to manage the issue on-site to ensure safety.

At approximately 5 a.m., MTR Corporation informed passengers about the disruption, apologizing for the inconvenience. Workers then conducted emergency repairs, moving the defective train to a safe location near Fo Tan station’s platform.

Normal operations on Hong Kong’s East Rail line resumed at around noon, allowing regular passenger services to continue. The operator stressed its commitment to maintaining high safety standards despite the unexpected breakdown.
