04.05.2025
The International Association of Machinists (IAM) has voted to approve a national collective bargaining agreement with the National Carriers Conference Committee (NCCC). This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
This new five-year agreement provides IAM-represented employees with significant benefits, including 18.8% wage increases over the contract’s duration.

As the ninth union to finalize a national contract in the 2025 bargaining season, IAM joins nearly half of all unionized employees in freight railroads who are now covered by either finalized or pending collective agreements.
The agreement mirrors other settlements made in the current bargaining round, emphasizing financial stability and enhanced working conditions for the Machinists.
Machinists Secure Higher Wages and Better Benefits
The IAM contract will see its members benefit from increased health and welfare provisions, all without a rise in employee contribution rates. Furthermore, employees will gain earlier access to paid vacation time, contributing to a better work-life balance for those in the industry.
These improvements come alongside the substantial wage increases, which are a major component of the national bargaining round.
IAM members, like other unionized workers in the rail sector, can look forward to improved compensation, enhanced benefits, and a more balanced career path as a result of this agreement.
National Agreement Strengthens Machinists’ Position in the Industry
Machinists in the rail industry have long advocated for better pay and working conditions. This new contract addresses many of those concerns, providing workers with greater financial security and additional vacation time for their personal well-being.
The approval of this national agreement is a victory for both IAM members and the broader union community within the freight rail sector.
