LTG Cargo has begun testing a remote locomotive diagnostic system
29.04.2024
LTG Cargo, a freight transport company within the LTG group, has started testing advanced remote diagnostic equipment on locomotives, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Belgian equipment installed on five Siemens locomotives will allow the company to assess the application of advanced technologies for servicing the technical fleet and transporting goods.
LTG Cargo and Treeden Group have signed a long-term lease agreement for the Terberg rail tractor
Upon successful implementation of this long-term project, the company aims to provide even more efficient maintenance of its locomotive fleet and save up to 1.5 million euros per year.
Following the installation of the new monitoring system, the company has begun continuously tracking a wide range of locomotive operation parameters.
This will enable the company to anticipate potential wear and tear or breakdowns. The remote diagnostic equipment will collect data on engine diagnostic parameters, brake system, overall locomotive system, and track system errors.
Based on the collected information, the company will develop an intelligent repair system that will intuitively adapt to the real condition of components and anticipate possible technical failures, preventing major breakdowns.
“Technologies are rapidly changing the railway and logistics sector worldwide. Artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, automation, and robotics are becoming increasingly common, paving the way for greater efficiency, transparency, and sustainability.
We prioritize innovation both in processes and in servicing the LTG Cargo technical fleet. Typically, vehicle maintenance occurs either preventatively or after physical detection of a malfunction. New diagnostic solutions will allow the lab to remotely collect and analyze data, determining in advance when and what maintenance locomotives will require. This, in turn, will increase locomotive turnover, avoid downtime, and provide higher quality services,” says LTG Cargo Director Eglė Šimė.
After a successful trial, the company hopes to install the remote diagnostic system on 44 Siemens locomotives.
It is expected that this pilot project will continue until the end of the current year.
