Alstom and Newag Agreements for Locomotive Procurement

Ontrain signed a major deal with Alstom to purchase 40 Traxx Universal locomotives. The agreement also includes an option for 20 additional units to meet future demands. These locomotives will improve operations in Poland and neighboring EU countries, enhancing regional transportation.

Production will occur at Alstom’s factory in Kassel, Germany, while bodies will be manufactured in Wroclaw, Poland. Each unit reaches a top speed of 140 km/h and delivers 5.6 MW of power. They are equipped with the Onvia signaling system to ensure safety and operational efficiency.

In parallel, Ontrain finalized an agreement with Newag for 10 Dragon 2 LM locomotives, with an option for 10 more. These six-axle locomotives meet modern standards and provide reliable solutions for heavy freight transportation needs.

Locomotive Procurement: A Strategic Investment for Growth

Ontrain’s CEO, Piotr Ignasiak, emphasized that locomotive procurement is vital for updating Poland’s rail sector. He noted that Poland’s economic development requires advanced solutions to meet rising transportation demands.

“Locomotive procurement will increase efficiency and competitiveness in the railway sector,” Ignasiak stated. He added that upgrading the fleet will address the growing need for reliable cargo operations across Poland and Europe.

Growing Demand for Modern Locomotives in Europe

Traxx Universal locomotives have seen rising popularity among European operators. In March, CLIP Intermodal from Poland ordered 13 units from Alstom, showcasing their reliability. In June, Italian operator Polo Logistica FS signed a contract for 70 locomotives, with an option for 30 more.

Meanwhile, Dragon 2 LM locomotives have been in operation since 2009, particularly with PKP Cargo and Lotos Kolej. These locomotives offer proven reliability and efficiency for intensive freight transportation, making them essential for logistics companies.

Enhancing Infrastructure Through Locomotive Procurement

Deliveries from Alstom and Newag will position Ontrain as a leading rail operator in the market. Modern locomotives will reduce operational costs, enhance performance, and provide better service to customers.

In conclusion, locomotive procurement plays a critical role in modernizing Poland’s railway infrastructure. These investments will address increasing demands, improve efficiency, and support the country’s economic growth.
