Liberals Unveil Ambitious Infrastructure Plan Ahead of Canadian Election. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

In a bold move, the Liberal Party has unveiled a comprehensive infrastructure plan emphasizing high-speed rail expansion, aiming to modernize Canada’s transportation network.
High-Speed Rail Expansion and Infrastructure Investments
Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the party’s commitment to constructing a high-speed rail corridor connecting Windsor, Ontario, to Quebec City.

This initiative builds upon previous plans and aims to enhance connectivity in Eastern Canada. Additionally, the Liberals pledge support for Alberta’s proposed Edmonton–Calgary passenger rail project, signaling a nationwide approach to rail modernization.
To bolster trade and economic growth, the platform introduces a $5 billion Trade Diversification Corridors Fund. This fund will finance the development of critical infrastructure, including ports, railways, airports, and highways, particularly focusing on Canada’s Arctic regions. Such investments aim to strengthen Canada’s position in global trade and ensure sustainable development in remote areas.
Streamlining Approvals and Enhancing Youth Mobility
Recognizing the need for efficient project execution, the Liberals propose establishing a Major Federal Projects office. This office will streamline the approval process for significant infrastructure projects, reducing the timeline from five years to two. Furthermore, federal agencies like Transport Canada will be mandated to review and eliminate outdated regulations within 60 days, minimizing bureaucratic delays.
In an effort to promote cultural engagement and accessible travel for youth, the platform introduces the “Canada Strong Pass.” This initiative offers free summer access to national museums and galleries, along with complimentary VIA Rail travel for individuals under 18 when accompanied by parents. Young adults aged 18 to 24 will benefit from discounted fares, encouraging exploration and education across the country.
As early voting concludes today, April 21, polls indicate the Liberals leading with 43.3% support, followed by the Conservatives at 38.4%, and the New Democrats at 8.2%. This marks a significant shift from earlier in the year when the Conservatives held a substantial lead.
The Conservative Party has yet to release its platform, while the New Democrats’ detailed policy document remains pending.
