LAX Station Opening Boosts K Line Ridership Across Los Angeles
21.07.2025
The new LAX Station sparked a major ridership boost on the Metro K Line in June, offering travelers and airport employees seamless access to Los Angeles International Airport through improved public transit connections. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
LAX Station Spurs Strong Weekend Growth
Ridership surged dramatically following the June 6 opening of LAX Station. Weekday traffic rose by 139.5%, Saturday ridership soared by 198.9%, and Sunday numbers climbed by 214.9%, making this the largest jump in the line’s history.

The station now completes the K Line route, creating a continuous link from Expo/Crenshaw to Redondo Beach. It also integrates with the A, C, K, and E Lines, strengthening regional connectivity and providing affordable alternatives to taxis or rideshares.

Expanded Access Through LAX Station
The station extends the C Line beyond its former terminus at Aviation/LAX Station, improving airport access for riders throughout Los Angeles County. Officials expect the hub to reduce congestion and give commuters cost-efficient transit options.
In June, K Line ridership grew by 26.8% compared to November 2024, marking the second-highest monthly total in its history. Weekend and holiday travel to and from the airport remain key drivers of this increase.
Systemwide, Metro recorded 23.7 million boardings in June, just 6% lower than last year despite protests, enforcement activity, and temporary curfews. Bus ridership dropped 5.9%, while rail saw a 6.5% decrease.
Customer satisfaction remains high, with 87% of riders rating Metro services positively in a February 2025 survey. Over half reported improvements in safety and service quality, highlighting the agency’s focus on enhancing the passenger experience.
