LAX Metro Transit Center Opens, Streamlining Airport Access
07.06.2025
The LAX Metro Transit Center opened today, uniting two light-rail lines, 14 bus routes and free airport shuttles to create a convenient, car-free path to one of America’s busiest hubs. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Mayor Karen Bass called the launch a new era, and Metro celebrated by waiving fares system-wide through Sunday. Riders now board trains, buses, Bike Share and Metro Micro without paying a cent during the opening weekend.

How the LAX Metro Transit Center Cuts Travel Time?
With the K Line gap closed, trains run nonstop from Expo/Crenshaw to Redondo Beach, and the C Line finishes here after leaving Norwalk. A single A or E Line transfer lands riders on an airport-bound rail.
Until the Automated People Mover arrives in early 2026, Los Angeles World Airports dispatches free shuttles every ten minutes to every terminal. Test trains already glide overhead, promising traffic-free rides above the jammed horseshoe.
Why the LAX Metro Transit Center Matters Before 2028?
Completed on schedule after breaking ground in 2021, the build marks the eighth milestone in Metro’s Twenty-Eight by ’28 program. The 500,000-square-foot hub offers 11 elevators, 12 escalators, nine stairways, restrooms, and storage for 50 bikes.
Public art crowns the concourse: Glenn Kaino’s spiral “Distance of the Sun” floats above escalators, and digital portraits salute riders. The LAX Metro Transit Center shows Los Angeles can deliver world-class transit before the global spotlight.
