14.04.2025
Lagos has committed to executing the entire 68km Green Line rail in one uninterrupted phase to enhance citywide transit and reduce daily traffic gridlock. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The new line will connect Marina to the Lekki Free Zone, transforming public transport and reducing reliance on personal vehicles. Unlike previous phased rail projects, this development will be completed as a single project.

Lagos Launches Full-Scale Green Line Implementation
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) presented the confirmed route and announced the decision to abandon the phased model used for earlier lines.
Officials emphasized that this approach will accelerate delivery and ensure full operational capacity from the start. The Green Line is positioned as a long-term solution to Lagos’ transportation bottlenecks.
Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Oluyinka Olumide, stated that the line must be completed before any commercial operations begin. His remarks reflect a firm political and logistical commitment to this goal.
Lagos Focuses on Partnerships and Environmental Safeguards
LAMATA is conducting a detailed Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), alongside a Resettlement Policy Framework, to address the project’s effects on people and the environment.
The government signed a Memorandum of Understanding with China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), ensuring the project benefits from global engineering expertise.
To prevent delays, residents along the railway’s path have been asked to update their building permits and ensure compliance with planning regulations.
By completing the project in one phase, Lagos sets a precedent for efficient infrastructure development, boosting regional growth and offering reliable mass transit for future generations.
