Knorr-Bremse to supply equipment for India’s HSR

In early September, Knorr-Bremse has signed an order to equip India’s first high-speed trains with braking systems, air-conditioning units, and safety, comfort, and reliability units for the new rolling stock.

This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
They will be built by the state-owned BEML in Bangalore with operating speeds of 280 km/h. They will operate on the 558 km Mumbai–Ahmedabad section with an exclusive 22 km long undersea tunnel.

It will begin deliveries in the second quarter of 2026. However, maintenance and servicing will go on for 15 years. Incidentally, BEML is also considering an additional deal with Knorr-Bremse to provide ten more trains.
Indian market offers growth for Knorr-Bremse
There has long been the presence in India by the company. Competence centers exist already in Palwal and Pune, while in 2025 the company opened in Chennai yet another facility focused on AI.
So the new contract reiterates the long-term plan of Knorr-Bremse. Earlier, in 2023, the company had also reached an agreement to fit 52 Indore-Bhopal Alstom metro trains with braking and climate systems.
What will Knorr-Bremse supply for India’s HSR?
Knorr-Bremse will provide braking systems, air conditioning, as well as door and sanitary systems for the highest passenger safety and comfort.
When will equipment deliveries start?
Initial deliveries will occur in the second quarter of 2026, with 15 years of follow-on service and supply of spare parts with possibilities for extension.
