Of these, 1,697 belong to the national railway carrier, while 110 are owned by private operators, according to data from the State Antimonopoly Regulation Agency.

In 2023, the company “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy” acquired 113 new locomotives.

However, this is insufficient to meet the growing demands of the transport infrastructure.

It is planned that by 2028, Kazakhstan will procure an additional 559 locomotives.

This project includes the acquisition of 193 electric locomotives and 366 diesel locomotives.

These purchases aim to modernize and expand the railway fleet, which will help improve freight and passenger transport across the country.
