The national company “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy” (KTZ) announced plans for a large-scale renewal of its rolling stock fleet, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
By 2029, it is expected to acquire 7,193 container platforms, which will significantly increase the country’s logistical capabilities.
TEUS Expands its Wagon Fleet: New Grain Cars to Improve Agricultural Logistics
This information was confirmed by the KTZ press service, specifying that this is part of a long-term strategy to strengthen its position in the freight transportation market.
Previously, KTZ’s subsidiary – “Kaztemirtrans” – had already announced the purchase of 601 container platforms and 1,500 gondola cars in 2024.
This will be an important step in renewing the company’s freight fleet, which aims to improve transportation efficiency and reduce the wear and tear on existing rolling stock.
According to the Organization for Cooperation of Railways (OSJD), in 2020 the total fleet of freight cars in Kazakhstan numbered 132.9 thousand units.
Of these, 2.9 thousand were platforms, indicating the need to increase this type of rolling stock to successfully meet the growing demand for container transportation and other types of freight.
The increase in the number of container platforms also aligns with the global trend toward developing container transport, which plays a key role in international logistics.
Kazakhstan, due to its geographical location, remains an important link in global transport corridors.
The purchase of new wagons and platforms will enhance this status and ensure high throughput, which will contribute to economic growth and strengthen international ties.
Investments in rolling stock also imply significant economic benefits for the entire transport industry of the country.
