Kazakhstan is selling locomotives to Mongolia

The Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan confirmed the shipment of four diesel-electric locomotives to Mongolia in 2023, each valued at over $4 million.

PKP Intercity has announced the winner of the tender for the supply of 300 carriages

This move underscores Kazakhstan’s scale of export activity, as it already supplies locomotives to six countries, including Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Moldova, Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan.

National plants like JSC “Locomotive Kurastyru Zauyty” (LKZ) and LLP “Electric Locomotive Kurastyru Zauyty” (EKZ), along with global players like American Wabtec and French Alstom, are major suppliers of this equipment.

The national carrier KTZ remains a significant client for these plants, driving demand for freight and passenger locomotives. In fact, the production capacity of both enterprises totals 100 units of equipment per year, indicating high potential for further growth in export deliveries.

This success not only confirms Kazakhstan’s technological progress in locomotive manufacturing but also opens new prospects for the development of international trade relations in the region.
