The proposed project seeks to enhance convenience and reduce travel time for passengers heading to the shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi. Located in Jammu and Kashmir, the route serves a crucial religious corridor and symbolizes the government’s ongoing infrastructure commitment.
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, railway development across the Kashmir Valley has gained renewed momentum. The new line builds upon this agenda and marks the first such expansion in nearly five decades.
Strategic Significance of the Jammu to Vaishno Devi Katra railway line
This rail link is expected to play a critical role in integrating spiritual tourism with regional development. Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra station, at the base of the Trikuta mountains, currently handles millions of devotees, making the line essential for capacity expansion.
Jitendra Singh welcomed the announcement, emphasizing its importance for both pilgrims and the broader Jammu and Kashmir population. He stated that improved transport would catalyze economic growth while ensuring smoother travel for religious visitors.
The survey approval also highlights India’s strategy to modernize connectivity in underdeveloped and strategically important regions. With the groundwork now set, construction planning is expected to follow swiftly to meet growing transportation demands.
