Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane SpA is evaluating Starlink as part of its plan to improve onboard internet and modernize Italy’s railway system. The Group may test the technology on select routes and future projects. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini said Ferrovie is reviewing both Starlink and another unnamed internet provider. These companies are under consideration to enhance connectivity on passenger trains throughout the country.

Ferrovie confirmed that this initiative supports its broader strategy to provide faster, more stable Wi-Fi services during train travel. Enhancing digital connectivity has become a key priority for boosting customer satisfaction.
The company already works with Icomera, a supplier that integrates Starlink into its Wi-Fi systems. Through this partnership, the railway hopes to eliminate service gaps on rural and long-distance routes.
