The total value of the framework agreement is €69.3 million. Details regarding delivery timelines have not yet been disclosed.
The contract aims to enhance the efficiency and reliability of freight transportation. Amid growing environmental and logistical demands, updating the railway fleet is becoming a key factor in reducing emissions and increasing transport safety.
The French-made open freight wagons will be used to transport various types of cargo, which will help reduce the load on road transport and lower harmful emissions into the atmosphere.
The collaboration with Millet AFR resulted from long negotiations, and this agreement highlights Infrabel’s commitment to developing sustainable transport infrastructure.
The modernization of the rolling stock also contributes to improving the competitiveness of rail transport, which has shown steady growth in recent years.
However, despite the positive aspects of the deal, the exact dates for the delivery of the new freight wagons remain unknown.
The project also plays an important role in strengthening economic ties between Belgium and France.
The use of European suppliers underscores the importance of localizing production and supporting sustainable development within the European Union.
In the face of global challenges, such as climate change and resource scarcity, cooperation between countries to create environmentally friendly transport takes on special significance.
Thus, the signing of this contract opens new opportunities for freight transport in Belgium, allowing Infrabel to implement modern technologies and improve the quality of transport services.
