General Manager Ashok Kumar Verma conducted a comprehensive inspection of key infrastructure, including tunnels and bridges, to assess and strengthen security measures. Accompanied by USBRL officials, Verma’s inspection aimed to ensure the safety and integrity of the rail line.

Increased Security Measures by Indian Railways

To address potential threats, Indian Railways has increased personnel at stations and implemented strict monitoring of tunnels and bridges. The Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and local police forces are collaborating to enhance security across the rail network.

Special attention is being given to the circulating areas of stations, baggage scanning procedures, and the safety of tunnels and bridges.

Enhanced Surveillance and Monitoring of Key Infrastructure

The 111-km Katra-Banihal section of the USBRL, known for its challenging terrain, has been identified as a critical area requiring heightened security. This section includes India’s longest transportation tunnel (T-50) at 12.77 km and the world’s highest railway arch bridge, the Chenab Bridge, standing at 359 meters. To ensure safety, RPF, GRP, and local police provide hourly updates, and a dedicated control center monitors CCTV footage around the clock.

In response to the attack, Northern Railway arranged for a special one-way train from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to New Delhi on Wednesday night to evacuate tourists. Another special train is set to depart on Thursday morning to assist with the evacuation of visitors from Jammu and Kashmir following the tragic incident.

These measures reflect Indian Railways’ commitment to maintaining security and ensuring safe travel for passengers in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack.
