A senior official confirmed that Rs 2 lakh crore of the FY25 allocation had been spent by mid-January. This achievement highlights the government’s efficiency in managing public infrastructure projects. Indian Railways continues to meet targets despite economic challenges, ensuring consistent development momentum.
The FY25 budget allocated Rs 50,903 crore to rolling stock and Rs 1.2 lakh crore for capacity enhancement. These funds support projects like track doubling, gauge conversion, electrification, and metropolitan transport. Railways also invested Rs 34,412 crore in safety initiatives.

How Indian Railways Budget 2025 Will Transform Transportation?
The National High-Speed Rail Corp. Ltd (NHSRCL) received Rs 21,000 crore in FY25 for the bullet train project. An increase in funding is expected to expedite infrastructure development along this vital route. These investments will cement India’s position as a global leader in transport innovation.
The government encourages private sector participation through increased capital investments, aiming to boost economic recovery. Business leaders advocate maintaining high expenditure levels to stimulate growth and create jobs across industries.
India’s GDP growth is forecast to decline to 6.4% this fiscal year, compared to 8.2% in FY24. This slowdown underlines the importance of sustained investments in public infrastructure to offset economic challenges. Public-private partnerships (PPP) will play a vital role in achieving these goals.
For FY26, the PPP capital expenditure target is likely to increase, reflecting the government’s commitment to infrastructure growth. The current year’s target of Rs 10,000 crore has already reached 90%, demonstrating the model’s effectiveness.
The Railway Budget continues to prioritize national development while addressing immediate economic concerns. Indian Railways is set to play a transformative role in connecting cities and supporting industrial growth through modernization.
The upcoming budget promises to reshape Indian Railways with cutting-edge technology and efficient operations. This aligns with the government’s vision of making India a global economic powerhouse.
