India: Trains with Speeds up to 250 km/h
12.06.2024
India has an ambitious plan to introduce trains capable of reaching speeds of up to 250 km/h by 2025, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Indian media reported that the country’s Ministry of Railways has approached the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai to create two prototypes of electric trains for this purpose.

These will be the first such trains manufactured in India and will be based on the existing platform of the Vande Bharat high-speed electric trains but will be capable of running on the broad gauge of 1435 mm.
Each train set will consist of eight coaches and will undergo testing on a special track in Rajasthan.
The trains will have a steel body and a maximum speed of 250 km/h, with an operational speed of 220 km/h.
They are planned to be used on the high-speed Mumbai-Ahmedabad line.
However, there has been criticism from a former head of ICF, who believes that meeting such deadlines is unrealistic and has proposed increasing the order volume.
He also noted the redundancy of the existing Vande Bharat trains and suggested introducing sleeper coaches to enhance their economic viability.
