East Japan Railway Co. (JR East) is working on the E10 series train for this project. The company already operates the E5 series, and it started the design stage of the E10 series in March with advanced braking and automation systems.
E10 Series: India’s Leap to High-Speed Rail
The E10 series maintains the E5’s top speed of 320 kmh, but features improved emergency braking with reduced stopping distances by around 15%. This is an improved safety and operational efficiency feature for India’s future high-speed corridor.
The JIC is also constructing a network in cooperation with Indian companies. Since January, 16 Indian trainees working for India’s high-speed rail authority have received conductor training in Fukushima Prefecture.
Technological Exchange and Future Plans
Development of the E10 is based on technology from Japan’s Alfa-X experimental train, which can reach 360 kph and is designed for driverless operation. These developments makes it possible to implement high-bandwidth, next generation systems in India seamlessly.
Japan’s Ecodrive Technology is set to put India second in line based on high speed expertise, after Taiwan in the region, as far as the high speed development story in Asia is concerned, Commercial operations are expected start in Japan by 2030.
