In the USA, $205 billion is being invested in a high-speed rail network
15.03.2024
An ambitious bill investing a massive sum of $205 billion into a high-speed rail network has been introduced in Congress, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
This project entails allocating $41 billion annually over five years.
Legislators argue that such a significant state investment also spurs $38 billion in private investment into railroad infrastructure development.
American railway manufacturers have secured several contracts in Brazil
The aim of this initiative is to connect the economic megaregions of the USA to enhance their productivity and global competitiveness.
The bill includes 34 high-speed rail projects, highlighting routes such as Los Angeles – San Francisco and Las Vegas – Los Angeles. Some of these projects are already funded by either private investors or supported by the Department of Transportation under the Biden administration’s infrastructure funding program.
Currently, California is becoming the center for high-speed rail development in the USA.
Its project, aimed at connecting the state’s two largest cities, is the country’s first to plan maglev trains capable of reaching speeds of up to 350 km/h.
In August 2023, a tender was announced for the supply of six high-speed trains for the Merced – Bakersfield line, part of the network that will connect Los Angeles and San Francisco (phase 1), as well as Sacramento and San Diego (phase 2).
This move attracts investors’ attention and promotes modern transportation technologies, thereby improving mobility and economic activity in the region.
