In August, over 50% of the total grain volume was shipped towards inland land border crossings, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.

In August 2023, 1.19 million metric tons of grain were loaded into freight cars, which is 9.2% more than the previous month.

Corn dominated the grain loading structure, accounting for 36% of the total volume. The second position in the grain statistics was held by seeds of other oilseeds. Additionally, sunflower seeds, wheat, barley, soybean seeds, malt in grain, and peas were loaded into the cars.

Regarding grain shipment destinations, over 50% of the total volume was sent to inland land border crossings.

Grain loading was carried out in three types of freight cars, with the majority belonging to grain hopper cars.

In August, lease rates for grain hopper cars increased compared to the previous month. The private owners’ fleet expanded, while the Ukrzaliznytsia fleet reduced in size.
