18.04.2025
Île-de-France Mobilités has signed a major €2.1 billion contract to purchase 96 new trains for suburban rail lines. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The operator continues implementing its strategic plan to modernize the region’s transport system. The new deal with Alstom expands the existing options from 2017 and 2018, allowing for up to 371 trainsets.

These trains will operate on the RER D and RER E lines, providing fast and comfortable service for local residents.
Technical Specifications of the New Trains
The trains can reach speeds of up to 140 km/h. Six-car trainsets are 112 meters long and hold up to 1,563 passengers. Seven-car versions measure 130 meters and can carry up to 1,861 passengers.
Production takes place at Alstom’s sites in Valenciennes, Petite-Forêt, and Crespin. Maintenance will be handled at the Joncherolles facility, which is currently being upgraded to support the new fleet and boost capacity.
Expansion of the Train Fleet in Île-de-France
Previously, Île-de-France Mobilités ordered 71 trains in 2017, followed by 60 more in 2023. Last year, an additional 35 units were added. With this new order, the total number of trains will reach 262.
The first trains entered service on the RER E line in November 2023. By the end of the same year, they also began operating on the RER D line. Currently, 10 new trains are already running across these lines.
This investment aims to improve passenger service, reduce congestion during peak hours, and increase overall travel speed. Riders have already noticed greater comfort aboard the new trains.
