07.02.2024
The Korean company Hyundai Rotem has secured a historically significant contract in the United States, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) has awarded Hyundai Rotem to supply 91 two-car metro trains, totaling $663.7 million, excluding options for an additional 50 cars.
Amtrak plans to double its passenger count by 2040
They outbid Stadler in the competition, despite a higher price, considering the contract timeline and technological innovations.
The trains are expected to be delivered by 2028, ahead of the Olympic Games, and will operate on lines B and D, with a maximum speed of 113 km/h and a capacity of up to 245 passengers in a six-car consist.
This contract marks a significant milestone for Hyundai Rotem in the American market, especially after LACMTA experienced delays with CRRC’s ordered cars.
Alongside other major companies like Kawasaki Rail, Hitachi Rail, and Alstom, Hyundai Rotem is contributing to the modernization of American public transit systems.
