Hyundai Rotem launches the fastest high-speed train in Korea
04.10.2022
Hyundai Rotem has unveiled the EMU-320, the fastest high-speed train in Korea, capable of a top speed of 320 km/h. Railway Supply magazine writes about this, citing IRJ.

The company says that after a trial run, the new train will enter service on the Gyeongbu and Honam high-speed lines, along with the existing KTX-1 and KTX-Sancheon types. Hyundai Rotem added that due to the distributed traction system, the new EMU-320 outperforms other trains in terms of acceleration and braking performance, as well as passenger capacity.
The distributed power system is already being used on the Hyundai Rotem KTX-Ieum built or Korail 260 km/h class 150000 high-speed electric trains used on the Jungang, Gangneung, Yeongdong and Jungbu Naeryuk lines.

“In domestic rail conditions, with many curves and short distances between stations, a distributed power system is more efficient,” the company says, adding that the system is also preferred by other high-speed train operators around the world.
At the opening ceremony, it was announced that the first batch of EMU-320s had already been shipped to the Korean railway operator Korail, and the delivery of the second batch is expected in November.
