Hull Trains strengthens community ties through charity work
Hull Trains now offers customers the option to send their delay compensation straight to its official 2025 charity partner, P.A.U.L For Brain Recovery. The Hull-based group assists brain injury survivors across the Humber region.

The charity recently expanded to serve communities in north and northeast Lincolnshire and plans further outreach. This collaboration will generate vital funding and increase awareness for its mission.
Hull Trains supports passengers and local causes
Operating between Hull and London King’s Cross, with stops in Grantham, Doncaster, and Beverley, Hull Trains combines reliable transport with meaningful community contributions. The partnership builds on the company’s record of social initiatives.
Founder Paul Spence created P.A.U.L For Brain Recovery after surviving a brain haemorrhage in 2012 caused by an unprovoked attack. His recovery exposed a lack of local support, inspiring him to open the charity’s centre in 2016.
The organisation provides guidance, rehabilitation, and peer support for those living with acquired brain injuries. Spence views the partnership as mutually beneficial, offering Hull Trains staff opportunities to join events and raise awareness.
In May, Hull Trains worked with the Alzheimer’s Society during Dementia Action Week, arranging a trip to Doncaster for people with dementia who had not travelled in years. That month, it also celebrated ‘Bee Lady Day’, recognising older community champions with afternoon tea and activities.
Stuart Jones, Managing Director of First Rail Open Access, praised the charity’s determination. He noted that the donation scheme is only the start of a broader collaboration planned throughout the year.
