This ambitious project will primarily modernize Valencia’s Access Channel, specifically targeting approach tracks to València Nord and València Joaquín Sorolla stations. Expanding and remodeling Joaquín Sorolla station will further support increasing passenger volumes and streamline rail traffic.
A broader objective of this project aligns with Spain’s Mediterranean Corridor initiative, aiming to increase connectivity and sustainability in the Valencia region. Through advanced digital signalling, this upgrade will significantly improve the rail system’s capacity, safety, and operational performance.
Carlos Mezquita, Country Director for Hitachi Rail in Spain, highlighted the anticipated impact on passenger comfort and the environmental benefits. Mezquita noted that the improvements aim to deliver a more seamless travel experience while reducing the environmental footprint in affected areas.
This project in Valencia adds to Hitachi Rail’s ongoing work with Adif, marking another milestone in their collaboration. Previous projects include deploying digital signalling technology at Madrid’s Chamartín Clara Campoamor station and enhancing the Madrid-Seville High-Speed Line.
The adoption of modern interlocking systems and the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) Level 2 ensures Valencia’s rail network meets the highest standards for interoperability, safety, and efficiency. These technologies reinforce Spain’s commitment to a safer and more efficient rail system.
Hitachi Rail’s Vision for Valencia
Hitachi Rail is committed to transforming Valencia’s railway infrastructure, integrating digital advancements to support the city’s expanding transit needs. The Valencia project reflects Hitachi Rail’s dedication to sustainable and efficient rail solutions, setting a high standard for urban rail networks.
Expanding Hitachi Rail and Adif Partnership
